Separated conjoined twins Jaga and Kalia would be shifted from the AIIMS New Delhi to the AIIMS Bhubaneswar once the hospital gives permission for it, Health Minister Naba Kishore Das informed the State Assembly on Tuesday.

Stating that Jaga and Kalia are recovering from their post-surgery health conditions and that the AIIMS New Delhi authorities have been asked to speak to officials of their Bhubaneswar branch, Das said the twins would be shifted once the AIIMS Bhubaneswar gives permission for it. The State Government is ready to extend all kinds of support for the purpose, he added.

Meanwhile earlier on Tuesday, the twins’ father Bhuyan Kanhar told media in New Delhi that he wants his kids to be shifted to Odisha at the earliest as he has not visited his native village in Kandhamal district for two long years to care of his old parents and two other children.

Notably, in the last week of June, National Health Mission (NHM) Odisha MD Shalini Pandit, who is monitoring the conditions of the twins, had told the media that the twins are ready to get discharged and the AIIMS New Delhi would soon issue a medical advisory to the State Government regarding the mode of transportation for their shifting.

The conjoined twins belonging to Milipada village in Kandhamal district were separated by a team of doctors after a 21-hour marathon surgery in October 2017. The State Government has borne the expenditures for the twins’ treatment.
